The housing complex was to accommodate 8 typical house, where 4 would face the rice paddies and ocean in the distance and the other 4 would face the road also at a distance. As it is surrounded by rice paddies and quiet lower compared to the main road, the front side of the house (facing the rice paddies) are raised to make the level of the house higher, and the back (entrance into the house) kept at original level (access road level). This creates a difference in building level as when you enter the house to when you are already inside the house. Steel and glass structures are mainly used when looking from the rice fields to create a more transparent, light looking structure.
